The Bite…Pizza Pioneers

8 April, 2015 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Supreme_pizzaPizza has a distinctive aroma, a steaming mixture of herbs, garlic and hot bread that entices the tastebuds and awakens the hunger of even the biggest pizza sceptic. It is the Italian food we eat with our hands, while melted Mozzarella cheese and Roma tomato sauce oozes over the edge of a warm, crunchy crust. Smell, touch, taste – pizza is a food that truly tantalises the senses.
The origins of this delicious bite can be traced back for centuries. People in ancient Greece would add oils, cheese and herbs to their bread. The Romans invented the “Placenta Cake” – layers of bread dough topped with bay leaves, honey and cheese. But the evolution of the modern pizza began during the 16th Century, starting out as a street dish for the poor. The pizza quickly transformed into a tourist attraction for the Italian city of Naples, and has spread its’ mouth-watering flavours to many corners of the earth ever since.
Here in Canowindra, PJ’s Woodfired Pizza gives this ancient dish the justice it deserves. Inside PJ’s, the venue is warm and welcoming, while the outdoor setting builds on the festive atmosphere. PJ’s is fully licensed and family friendly, with a kid’s play area and secure yard so Mum and Dad can just kick back and relax.
The menu at PJ’s is as delicious as it is diverse, with more than 13 pizzas to choose from at great prices. Toppings range from traditional tastes like Margherita, to flavours for the more modern pizza lover, like the Chicken & Streaky Bacon. Takeaway orders over $60 get a free 1.25 litre soft drink, and any table in the restaurant spending over $100 gets 10% off their bill’s total.
Over in Orange, ProvVista adds the pizza to a traditionally inspired menu of Italian cuisine. These gourmet pizzas, which include gluten-free options, offer a range of toppings for a wide variety of tastes. With a reputation for only using the finest ingredients and cheeses, the delicious sauces and dressings are made in-house by ProvVista chefs.
The mesmerising scent wafting from the kitchen, that succulent first bite into a ham & pineapple slice, the childish delight of touching the food before you taste it: these are the highlights of indulging in a pizza. So what are you having for dinner tonight?
