The Canowindra Tigers youth squad played against the Binalong Brahmans over the weekend at their home ground. With multiple players out of the game with injuries, the boys were still keen for a good showing. Talk had been positive all week so starting the game with 12 players each, a good contest was assured. Binalong were the first to score in the first five minutes of the game due to a poor kick from a Tigers player.
The Juniors hung in and by the 12th minute they hit back with a try to Will Middleton after a strong run from Sam Willson. But the Brahmans capitalised on the Tigers’ mistakes and ran in three more tries before the break.
Unfortunately, Wesley Blair was injured just before half-time leaving the Canowindra side with only 10 players for the rest of the game. In a show of great enthusiasm, the Tigers hit back with two tries in the second half of the
game with strong running from Sam Willson to force his way over. With a conversion from Daniel, this left the Tigers on 16 points.
Eventually the strain of playing one man down against quality opposition began to wear the Tigers down. The Brahmans went on to snag a convincing win with the final score resting at 64-16. Player’s player and 3 points went to Sam Willson, with 2 points going to Will Middleton and 1 point to Jack Grant.
