Youth League travelled to Cargo on Sunday and came up against a strong Manildra side. The Tigers had the wind at their backs in the first half and looked good in patches but failed to complete sets and gave away penalties which kept Manildra in the game, and this lead to Manildra’s first try to lead 4-0 after ten minutes.
Strong runs from the Canowindra Tigers got the ball back down the other end of the field and looked like they were in for a try only to be bought back for a forward pass. This could be one of the turning points of the game as Manildra got down the other end and scored a second try to lead 10-0 at the break.
Manildra scored another try in the second half to lead 16-0. The young Tigers forward pack played some good entertaining football with good surges from forwards Whatman, Fisher and Harrison and scored to narrow the gap to 10 points.
The Tigers started to get on top of Manildra as the big forwards were tiring, Canowindra then scored another try in the corner by Brenton Clements and only trailed 16-10. Angus Fisher was over the line only for the ball to be stolen and an opportunity was lost. Boys hung in well and never gave up but a penalty goal with five minutes to go put Manildra in the box seat leading 18-10 and this being the full time score.
The Canowindra Tigers Presentation Night is on 23 September at Canowindra Bowling Club tickets are $25pp.
