Women’s Bowls

Canowindra’s winning team of Di Mooney, Jenny Middleton and Betty Jenkins.

Well done to Betty Jenkins, Jenny Middleton, Dianne Mooney, who defeated Denise Turner, Elaine Connor, Yvonne Johnston from Orange. The game was played in Canowindra on the 13th and 14th September for the Central West District Women’s Triples Championships. Great game, very proud of our ladies.

September 20th, 2022 there were 3 games of social bowls played. Moyna Rue and Libby Balcombe played Sharon Wynn and Nancy Morrow which was a draw 12 all. Christine Pickard, Liz Thornberry, Dianne Slattery were defeated by Daph Bryant, Joyce Boland, and Sandy McDonald, 20-8. Joice McNaught Jenny McClintock and Marion Wilson were defeated by Jeanette Wheeldon who played 2 positions and Gwen Hayden, 22-5. 

The zone four number 4 division play offs were played at Club Dubbo.

Canowindra were one of eight teams competing, divided into two sections.

Canowindra had a narrow loss to Transient in the first round by 5 shots on the main board, winning one rink.

Canowindra had to win the second round on Saturday to stay in contention against Parkes Railway. The team rallied with a resounding win, losing only one rink .They had plus 20 shots on the big board.

Milthorpe had to beat Trangie in the other match, they came very close resulting in a draw on the big board.

Canowindra were in second place on 10 points and Trangie on 14.5 points.

Canowindra had to beat Milthorpe and Parkes Railway to beat Trangie.

Canowindra had great effort winning the game 9 to 1 and Parkes railway defeated Trangie 9/1 giving Canowindra a section win with19 points and Trangie on 15.5.

Bathurst won the other section in a convincing fashion and went in favourite.

Canowindra battled to the end, unable to match the strength of the much bigger club.

Thanks for the efforts of all bowlers in the pennants rounds.

Due to unavailable players all games this weekend by mutual agreement.

Don’t forget to enter the women’s triples on the 8th of October.
