The annual Canowindra Phoenix Christmas in July competition has come to an end with the largest involvement to date.
Gaskill Street was beautifully decorated with most businesses getting involved by filling their windows with an array of Christmas themed designs. The windows were judged on four different categories; creativity, originality, effort and street appeal with prizes given for the winner, runner-up and second runner-up, as well as a people’s choice award.
This year’s winner was The Plague and I with a beautifully dressed window complete with snow, a chandelier and a patchwork quilt dressed mannequin. Runner-up was Canowindra Newsagency and second runner-up Rockstar Clothing.
“We have had people coming from out of town just to see the street for Christmas in July,” said Debbie Guihot of The Plague and I. The winners were awarded their prizes by Deputy Mayor of Cabonne Council, Cr Anthony Durkin. “It is a great, inspirational, community spirt lifting exercise and shows the dedication of the businesses to the Cabonne Shire,” said Cr Durkin. “It’s also encouraging other towns to do the same as it is a great drawcard to encourage people to visit our town.”
This year Cabonne Council showed their support by sponsoring and donating the prizes for the winners which are gift vouchers of their choice to any local business meaning the money will be staying in Canowindra and promoting shopping locally.
Thanks to all the businesses who participated, the town looked spectacular.
