Canowindra will be hosting a White Ribbon March next Friday 25th November to show support for respected relationships and to condone or minimise violence. Gaskill Street will be closed to traffic for a short period during the march. The march will kick off at 2pm starting from the corner of Ryall Street, next to the Junction Hotel. It will then make its way down Gaskill Street to Memorial Park. White Ribbon Ambassador Barry Merrittt will be in attendance as well as some guest speakers calling for an end to the intimidation, emotional, financial, social and physical abuse of women and children in our community.
The best way to counteract its influences is to educate children in respectful relationships in schools and involve our communities in this process. If we don’t talk about the harms and demonstrate zero tolerance for violence in our communities it can continue to flourish in the silence Family violence touches every culture, race and socio-economic level of society in Australia with 1 in 3 children under 15 either witnessing or are a victim of violence.
Our community attitudes teach children what is and isn’t acceptable behaviours. Come take a community stand together against violence and march next Friday.
