What Women Want…Hair-Raising

Hair-Raising
Keeping my hair in check has never been high on my list of priorities. In fact, I’ll let you in on a secret, I haven’t been to a hairdresser in four years. My version of ‘hairdressing’ involves standing over the sink, grabbing my hair in a pony-tail and hacking the ends off with the kitchen scissors. Joh Bailey would be turning over in his grave, if he were dead that is. Every so often I’ll feel a twinge of guilt at the spiky waves of split ends that seem to be travelling up my head and invest in some expensive conditioner, but I can’t bring myself to fork out a few fifties to sort my bonnet. So when summer comes rolling in, my hair metaphorically wails in despair. So as the old saying goes, do as I say and not as I do and you could be the owner of luscious locks instead of the electrocuted birds nest I’m currently sporting.
Here are some tips to manage your mane this summer:
Tip 1 Deep-conditioning masks are fabulous. Comb in these masks, throw your hair up in a bun and let the product work its magic while you go about your day. This also acts as a barrier to harmful rays from the sun.
Tip 2 There’s always been a bit of controversy over washing hair, with many people arguing that washing it daily strips your scalp of natural oils. However, during summer regular washing is a must. After all, your head perspires and gets dirty just like your face.
Tip 3 Eat Acids. Omega-3 fatty acids that is! Apparently foods rich in this, including spinach, eggs and salmon keep hair strong and healthy
Tip 4 Can the can of hairspray. Hairspray is chock full of harmful ingredients such as alcohol and ethanol which can cause your hair to dry out. In extreme cases this can lead to hair actually snapping at the ends!
Follow these simple tips to treat your tresses this summer and you won’t have to go through the next few months with your hair perpetually in a bobble, like myself. Although judging by the heat waves we’ve been having, up-do styles may be a must to stay cool!
