Last Monday, 16 June the Canowindra High School Dance Team performed at the The Western Region Dance Festival held in Bathurst.
This year the CHS students challenged themselves with two dances. One was a high energy, fun performance – Dancing through our Decades. Those who travelled to Bathurst to watch saw toddlers through to grannies strutting their stuff on stage. The second was a contemporary piece “UN” set to the musical piece ‘Unready’ by local artist Gordi.
The festival is the culmination of a term’s preparation. The choreography team of Eadie Brown, Lacey Duguid and Claire Neville did an amazing job creating two spectacular pieces. Additionally, Eadie and Lacey have also been selected as part of the Western Region Senior Dance ensemble, comprised of students from five different schools, which also performed on the night and again at Dubbo last Thursday. They will represent us in Sydney later this year.
This event is so much more than just a dance. It builds confidence, responsibility, leadership, communication, dance skills and resilience. It is an eye-opener for the first time performers, experiencing the rigour of the rehearsals, the intensity of the backstage workings as well as the on-stage performance in a professional venue. It is also a great chance to watch and be inspired by a wide variety of performances and experience the backstage comradery between the schools. It allows students with a creative flair to develop and improve their talents.
