Once again, although fast and furious the Western Challenge League Tag Carnival held in Canowindra last Sunday was played in great carnival spirit.
Five competitions were represented on the day through Woodbridge Cup, Mid West, Group 10, Group 11 and Canberra.
There were three clubs making their first appearances including Orange United and Wellington Cowboys with their performance very positive. The third team West Belconnen, who have a connection to the town of Canowindra through former Canowindra player Krystle Coker, also had a number of players relocating from Canowindra in their 1st and Reserve grade tackle teams.
Bathurst St Pats looking for their 5th title in a row and 6th in ten years made it to the final against newcomers the West Belconnen Warriors. The final was a try a piece with West Belconnen kicking two goals to take out the victory 8-4. Player of the tournament was Krystle Coker.
Early in the day the tournament was advised of Trundle not attending due to the loss of one of their young players in their club overnight. Both finalists St Pats and West Belconnen, have asked that their prize money go to the family involved.
