Waste 2 Art Community Workshop For The Year To Shrink Your Footprint

4 March, 2026 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Cowra Council is pleased to announce its involvement in the 2026 community art exhibition and competition called WASTE 2 ART.

The project will be run in three stages beginning with community workshops, then a local exhibition and competition, which will lead to selected artists competing at the Regional Showcase to be held August 2026 in Broken Hill.

The Community Workshop in Cowra Shire will be held on Wednesday 18 March at the Cowra MRF from 9.30am to 2.30pm and includes a MRF tour and lunch.

Cowra Council would like to invite all interested community members who live in our shire to come along. Renowned artist Shani Nottingham will be guiding participants in crafting artworks from waste materials.

Come along and share ideas, individuals and groups are welcome. If you have an idea of what you want to do already, take advantage of this opportunity to gain some advice on how to go about it.

Each year a specific waste item will be featured, 2026 we are focusing on shrinking your waste footprint and entrants will need to package their artworks into a shoe or boot box for transport. The workshop will help you work around ideas and give tips on working small, finding uses for waste items which can’t be recycled but can be converted into something creative.

The workshop will be offered free of charge to anyone who lives in the Cowra Region and, and entry to the local Waste 2 Art Exhibition and Competition is free.

For further information or to book your place in the Community Workshop please contact Cowra MRF on 6340 2140 or use the ‘Ask Anthony’ feature on the MRF App.

To ensure your place in the workshop please book early as there are limited places.
