The Cargo to Grenfell walk begins next Thursday in Cargo.
A fundraising walk will be run from Cargo to Grenfell beginning next Thursday in Cargo. The Cargo to Grenfell Annual Fundraiser Walk (C2G) began in 2016 with the vision of creating a physically, mentally and emotionally challenging distance event which would begin in Cargo and finish in Grenfell, travelling via Canowindra and Gooloogong, in aid of mental health in local communities.
This year, things are looking a bit different as ever-changing COVID restrictions limit what participants can do, but fortunately the event will go ahead.
The aim of the C2G organisers has been a work in progress for the past few years, with ever developing ideas on how funds raised by the walk may best be utilised. Recently, its purpose has been narrowed and C2G aims to be proactive in creating awareness through community programs and workshops, leveraging resources and support organisations in the mental health industry.
The C2G walk aims to raise $20,000 in order to assist in meeting their goals. While that number might seem huge, there is some precedence, with C2G raising over $30,000 in 2019. This year, C2G is donating to the Rural and Remote Mental Health group and the Rural Adversity Mental Health Program both of which work directly with the communities the walk passes through.
The walk will be split into two distances – half marathon (21.3 kilometres) and full distance (44.6 kilometres) with the latter of the two offering two start times, 7:30am and 10am, beginning in Cargo at 11am at the Cargo Inn Hotel carpark.
