The upgraded amenities at Morris Park in Canowindra have now been officially opened this week by Cabonne Council.
Cabonne Council Mayor Kevin Beatty and Councillor Andrew Pull were delighted to open the facilities to the public.
The upgrades were funded through Round Two of the Australian Government’s Office of Road Safety as part of their Driver Reviver Site Upgrade program.
Morris Park regularly hosts a Driver Reviver van during school holidays and long weekends. The upgrades will assist volunteers to better support motorists manage their fatigue on long journeys, reducing the risk of crashes causing deaths and serious injuries.
Cabonne Council Mayor Kevin Beatty said the amenities upgrade at Morris Park have replaced the aged and dysfunctional amenities to bring them in line with current standards and community expectation.
“Not only does Morris Park serve as a popular spot for locals, it also sees a significant number of travellers, particularly those enroute to and from Canberra,” Clr Beatty said.
“It is an ideal spot to stop in at when breaking up long trips as it provides off road parking, picnic tables and children’s play equipment,” continued Clr Beatty.
Round two of the Driver Reviver Site Upgrade program committed $7.2 million to upgrade 71 roadside rest areas across the country.
Driver Reviver is a community program which has been operating in Australia for more than 30 years, promoting road safety and helping reduce the road toll and fatigue-related road trauma.
