Waking up to a sky full of colourful balloons is an unusual sight for some, but not for the local residents of Canowindra as we celebrate the 8th annual Canowindra International Balloon Challenge.
The annual event will run from the 18th- 25th April and is set to attract thousands of visitors into town.
This year there is an exciting new addition to the event being the Hummingbird Balloon. The hummingbird has come all the way from Albuquerque, New Mexico, to feature in this year’s international event.
Canowindra is known for being Australia’s Ballooning Capital and there is no wonder why with the perfect ballooning conditions.
“Canowindra is situated in a basin, which means the high winds mostly pass over the top thus the winds are generally calm. The road network is also extremely good for retrieving the balloons after they land,”Organiser Jan Kerr said.
The Balloon Glow will have performances by several dance groups including our local Alikinetic group, Fire dancers and a laser light show to name just a few of the attractions.
