The Tigers are now in fourth place of the competition after a convincing win against Molong 42 points to 10. The score doesn’t indicate the toughness of this game and the Tigers had to work hard for their points.
The first half was very physical with heavy forwards clashes. It was through the backs that Canowindra put first points on the board with Andrew Bennett in the 9th minute and it wasn’t until the 34th minute that Andrew scored a second try from a clever kick for the Tigers to lead 10-0. Molong threatened on many occasions but the Tigers line held strong. Right on the bell the tigers received a penalty 20 metres out, from the tap Rob Burn put in a cross field kick which James Dine swopped on just inside the sideline to score the most extraordinary try seen for some time. Tigers went to half time up 14-0.
Molong were the first to score in the second half to reduce the deficit to 10 points, but from then on it was all the Canowindra Tigers with a great display of rugby league.
This week the Tigers ball security was much better than in past games and as a result allowed to put more pressure on the oppositions defence have them fighting to get out of their own half. Shi Mariner was the first to score in the 55 minute then Lawrence in the 62 under the post for Burn to convert 24-4. Poor discipline in the Molong side allowed Canowindra to have good field position resulting in tries to Hunt (2) and to Sam Neil with Burn to convert. Molong ran in a consolation try in the 76th minute to bring the final score 42-10.
This week the Tigers host Cargo coming off a win against Eugowra last week.
League Tag
This was an entertaining game of league tag with both sides defence up to the highest level, but Canowindra held on for a win 12-6. Laura Price continued on our scoring way with two tries in the first half and there
was one try from Molong. Although this looked to be a very defensive game, with many attacking raids from both sides, their scrambling held the opposition out. These are the type of games needed to set you up for semi-final – tight and intense.
Youth League
Molong ran out winners 28-16 in a game of mixed fortunes. The Tigers started well scoring the first try to lead 6-0 in the second minute. Molong hit back with two tries to lead 8-6 in the 8th and 11th minutes. They held the more fancied team out until 3 minutes before the break to trail 14-6.
It was all Molong for the next 15 minutes scoring three tries to lead 28-6, then the Tigers defence kicked in with more intensity to hold out the opponent and the finished with two tries Ben and Tyler to close the gap to 28-16. If the boys applied this defence after the break straight away the result could have been in their favour.
