Incoming And Outgoing Lions Presidents Report For 2022/2023
Firstly, I would like to give a big thank you to The Canowindra Lions Club for entrusting me with the role of President of this wonderful country Lions Club. I tried to do my best to keep our Club cohesive and up to the challenges happening in our world at present. We have the most wonderful group of hard-working members who are also involved with many facets of Canowindra life.
I can’t help but think how our town would survive without these extraordinary people if they weren’t involved in the everyday running of these charities. We had a huge year catering for the Bike Riders with dinner and breakfast, Team Penning and the Canowindra Show weekend. The Balloon Glow Weekend was another mammoth event where the members served from 7am in the morning! And many other things like BBQ’s at clearing sales etc.
On a sad note, we lost stalwart founding member of our Lions Club in August last year. Lion Dick Marsh was a much loved and respected elder. The Club honored him with a guard of honor at his funeral, where we were joined by Governor Michael Ryan and partner Judy along with Zone Chairperson, Marie Tame and partner David. We were delighted to have 5 new members this year, Mick, Paul, Chris, Craig and Denise. They have been great assets to our Club and have immersed themselves into Club work wholeheartedly. Paul especially who along with Chris who have worked on a grant to see if we can get a new van to replace the antique van we have been using for years for functions and driver reviver.
I must make special mention of some of our members – a big thanks to Secretary Alison, Coordinator Darryl and BBQ gods Rod and Don and their new apprentice Craig. Also, thanks to our marvelous Treasurer of many years, Ronnie. Lastly our two golden girls Kay with her sidekick hubby Ian and our special pocket rocket, Joe. We have two new members joining the next month.
As most of you are aware, I have been asked by the Canowindra Club to do another year as President, and I have accepted the role. We also will have a new Secretary/Treasurer, Paul. We have also transferred to tablet sales as well as cash for our functions.
Lastly, I have put into place something we have been wanting for years – a cement slab at our Den at the Showground. Thanks for all your support from last year. Looking forward to new adventures.
Cheers and best wishes,
President Tommy Jeffs, OAM
