Tigers Show Great Defence

30 June, 2022 By Barry Traves

Canowindra Tigers were very quick out of the blocks last week scoring the first try within three minutes of play, the first of 12 tries for the day. This was the result of great backline movement which was set up by the determined running from the Tigers forward pack.

The Tigers led 38-0 at the break and needed to start well the second half and control the game. Tigers started well and scored first but Grenfell scored under the post and score now 42-6. The Tigers defence held the remainder of the half to hold Grenfell out the remainder of the game.

Ned Stevenson had a great day out scoring 5 tries and Marty Ferguson scoring 2.

Players player went to Marty Ferguson, this was Marty’s last game for the club and the Tigers wish Marty and his partner well in the future and are always welcome here in Canowindra.

The Tigeresses were beaten in a League Tag game the score didn’t indicate the closeness of the game. Grenfell led 18-0 at half time. The Tigers scored in the second half and Grenfell didn’t post points until the dying seconds of the second half. The final score 22-4. Players Player went to Paige Selten.

The young Tigers were missing some key players due to injury over the weekend and didn’t play with the enthusiasm of the last match. Grenfell ran out winners 48-22. When the Tigers went low in defence they were able to hold the bigger pack and through good teamwork were able to score points. They gave Grenfell too big of a lead before they clicked into gear. Conor Munro scored three tries and was voted players player.

Tigers have a home game this Sunday against old rival’s Eugowra.
