Tigers Into Semi Finals

11 August, 2022 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Tigers had a 34-20 win over the Manildra Rhinos in a very entertaining game of rugby league on Sunday.

Lewis Dwyer opened the scoring with a try under the post from a tip off from Tigers captain Ronnie Lawrence.

Manildra scored three tries in the next 15 minutes to lead 16-6 and Brown ruled to have done a shoulder charge left the Tigers one player down. The Tigers having a little more ball Frazer Ryder found a hole in the Rhinos defence to score which was converted by Matthew’s to narrow Manildra lead to 16-12.

In the second half the Tigers started stronger scoring first with a try to Ryder his second for the day again converted, this took the Tigers to the lead 18-16.

Manildra enjoyed a lot of possession in the Tigers twenty and scored out wide to go into the lead 20-18.

Canowindra started to dominate in the forwards through Dwyer, Whatman, Car- men and Lolo and finally broke through and Earsman backing up scored near the post to put the Tigers back in front 22-20 and Matthews converting 24-20 with 7 minutes to go.

Ryan Clarke drifted across the paddock picked up Lawrence on an under run and found space through the middle to offload to Lewis then onto Earsman who linked to the centres who found Dine on the wing to score out wide and Danny Matthews converted to seal the win.

With only minutes left Clarke swooped on a loose ball 50m out to sprint away to score making the final score 34-20, players player went to Lewis Dwyer.

The Canowindra Tigers would like to pass on condolences to the Marsh family with the passing of Dick Marsh. Dick was a life member of the Canowindra Football Club and a minutes silence was held before the first grade game.

Next week is a home semi-final against Trundle.

Unfortunately the Tigeresses couldn’t contain the competition leaders going down 26-10. Charlie Burling was the players player. Next week the girls play a minor semi-final.

In the Youth League the score didn’t indicate the closeness of the game, the young Tigers dropped too much ball in attacking position and let Cargo off the hook. Cargo made the best of their opportunities to post a score of 30-12. Next week the boys get to redeem themselves as they play Cargo in the minor semi-final. Players player went to Luke Wheeler.
