Things You May Not Know About The Age Of Fishes Museum Association Inc.

19 March, 2025 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

The team at the Age of Fishes Museum.

The Age of Fishes Museum’s Association is a not-for-profit organisation. For the last twenty-five years it has supported the work carried out by Cabonne Council, their staff and the volunteers at the Age of Fishes Museum in Canowindra.

The Association has an elected Board, consisting of its Chair Andrew Wooldridge and Board members Robyn Slattery, Lorraine Spear, Lou Koch, Pam Montgomery, Dr Shé Hawke and Bill Hines.

The aim of the association is to:

1. protect and promote Canowindra’s scientifically important, internationally significant, 360-million-year-old Devonian fish fossils,

2. enhance the visitors experience within the Museum,

3. and promote Canowindra and its community.

The Association promotes STEM education by providing Science awards for all Primary schools in Canowindra. It also awards the Dr Ritchie Science Scholarship annually to a promising year 12 student at Canowindra High School. It also financially assists with the mail out of a quarterly, educational STEM newsletter to more than 800 children in the Museum’s Kids Club.

The Association contributes equipment to improve the visitor experience. This has included an Information Kiosk and new play equipment for children to encourage engagement and promote education.

The Association is grateful to Cabonne Council and the Museum’s management for their continuing support in ensuring that volunteers, staff and visitors alike have the very best experience possible.

The Association continues to build on current partnerships with Cabonne Council, local schools, Mid Lachlan Landcare, and the owners of Kalang, whilst supporting and promoting local businesses.

The Age of Fishes Museum would not be able to function as it does without the dedicated volunteers who assist staff with operational needs, tours, information, and children’s activities, (including the kids free Science activity days that are held on the first Friday of each month).

The Association consists entirely of volunteers who continually and enthusiastically promote The Age of Fishes Museum. Our members pay tribute to Canowindra’s wonderful community which supports our Museum in so many ways.

If any community members are interested in helping us in our efforts to support the Age of Fishes Museum, please drop into the Museum or contact one of our Board members.

All donations to Age of Fishes Museum Inc. are tax deductable for the donor.
