Grey
When all walls are straight,
And all colours seem grey.
When life is quite tough,
And you want to call it a day.
If things seem quite bland,
And there is no note to be heard.
There’s no smiling faces,
And not an encouraging word.
To be in the city,
Seems to me just like that.
The colours seem to die,
And the surfaces are all flat.
But out of the gloom,
Comes a word of good cheer.
A smile from a stranger,
Saying there’s nothing to fear.
Just the kindness of one soul,
Can change another’s whole day.
It can be a light in the darkness,
And show you the way.
It is like the scent of rain,
When only dry fields you can see.
The smell of a flower,
Or a child’s laughter so free.
So never underestimate,
Your impact this week,
In a smile or a greeting,
For another may seek.
It’s in the eyes that say hello,
Or the small helping hand.
That love from heaven above,
Into our hearts does descend.
