The Melbourne Cup Of The Central West!

18 March, 2015 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

The Wellington Boot is regarded as one of the biggest events in Country Racing. Held from 27th to the 29th March, this ‘Melbourne Cup of the Central West’ racing extravaganza was first run in 1981 and over thirty years later it still attracts huge crowds.
The town of Wellington will come alive as festivities kick off on Friday 27th and what better way to begin a weekend of celebrating than with a delicious ‘Boot Breakfast’ at the Cow & Calf Hotel or a buffet brekkie at the Grand Hotel?
Get your blood pumping when the barriers rise on Sunday for race day, which features the legendary $100,000 prize Wellington Boot! Stake your claim near the winning post and cheer on your favourites from 10.30am. Enter the annual Yearling Raffle, back by popular demand, for a chance to be the lucky winner of a lovely Husson filly! Punters can purchase a raffle ticket and go into the running to win a Magic Millions Yearling which will be drawn at the TAB. Want a break from the horses? New to this year, the Club are launching an exciting area for 18-30 year olds called ‘The St Louis Boutique Garden Marquee’ which will also play host to the annual Miss Boot draw!
Add a bit of class to your sass and view the track from a seat in the popular Oyster and Champagne Bar. Ladies looking glamourous in their Sunday best can sip some bubbly before strutting their stuff in the ‘Fashions On The Field’, a hotly contested event that has a category for everyone! Someone will also be crowned Miss Wellington Boot, all you have to do is get your ticket to the St Louis Boutique Garden Marquee for your chance to win. Tickets are from $90 which includes complimentary gate entrance, hospitality, race book and more. It’s going to be a big year for the Boot, so pull on a pair and start planning you weekend in Wellington!
