Exercise. How important is it & how many of us truly get enough of it? We have all heard the excuses and we all inherently know we should doing it!
Exercise is essential for human health and helps to prevent obesity, heart disease, arthritis, asthma, type 2 diabetes, stroke, some cancers, depression, dementia, and osteoporosis which are all extremely prevalent in Australia. Everyone is either diagnosed with at least one of these illnesses or we know someone who is, and even worse the problem is escalating very fast! To stop the pandemic proportions of chronic illness we need to change the way we view exercise.
As a society we need to stop seeing it as only something that is there to just makes us look good to something that is a requirement for your health and the health of everyone you know. The research is clear; exercise stimulates the genes required for normal human physiology meaning if you don’t find time to adequately move your body you will have to find time for illness eventually.
Now we have established just how essential exercise is, next time I will discuss what is “adequate” and share great tips on how to implement regular exercise into your day. For now, put on some running shoes and get moving!
