Paul, a volunteer from Cabonne Council finds volunteering with Cabonne Council rewarding for both her and the participants
Cabonne Home Support held a morning tea in Eugowra on 15th May and in Canowindra on 22nd May to celebrate National Volunteer Week and say thank you to the volunteers that generously give up their time for the many services Cabonne Council provides.
From delivering meals and providing companionship to older people in our community, the local volunteers are spread across the villages offering support to our residents.
Cabonne Council has several different volunteer roles available in their Cabonne Home Support team delivering Meals on Wheels locally and throughout the shire.
Hot meals are delivered in Canowindra and Eugowra as well as frozen, and frozen meals throughout the rest of the shire. In addition to Meals on Wheels we also have social support volunteers who can provide social companionship to older people that are experiencing or at risk of social isolation.
Cabonne Community Transport also has volunteer driver roles throughout the shire, to help escort older people to appointments.
The Age of Fishes Museum has volunteer tourism officers who play a key role in the day-to-day operation of the museum.
Paul is a local volunteer who volunteers for Meals on Wheels and Home Care support. “I find the most rewarding part of volunteering to be the chit chat, and it makes me feel useful. I have only been here for 18 months and it has helped me get to know the town and the people in it.”
“Volunteering is a two way street, you get as much out of it as you give,” explains Paul, Cabonne Volunteer.
Canowindra has several organisations that have volunteer opportunities from CWA, Vinnies, our schools, Canowindra Connections and FoodBasket, Rotary, Lions Club, sporting and services clubs and so much more.
