This letter is an offer of my support for the establishment of a trading Bendigo Bank in Canowindra.
I have lived in this town for the past 11 years, spending 5 years working as the local Police Officer. Throughout that time, I have learnt what community spirit is about. Businesses such as a Supermarket, Post Office, Bakery, Fruit and Veg shop, Butcher, Newsagency and Pharmacy tie everyone together.
There have recently been changes to the trading times of our local National Australia Bank branch, which was obviously made at a corporate level with little or no regard to community needs or how it would impact their customers.
As I have travelled around, I have seen many towns of similar size to Canowindra. Within these towns, I have noticed that they have established their own Community Bendigo Bank branch. One nearby is operating successfully in Boorowa.
I have attended several meetings where a committee has been formed by local people who want to see our town continue to have access to a bank. The unique advantage of using the Bendigo Bank is that the bank would be set up and run by locals, for locals, helping to put money back into local projects.
All that is required is a pledge, a nomination that you will invest anywhere between $500 and $50,000. To complete a pledge, simply fill in a form available from Bill Paul or Adloyalty. If the BIG banks don’t think we need a bank, we will create our own.
