Sun Shines On Canowindra As Junior Rugby Season Wraps Up In Style

19 August, 2026 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

The Canowindra Junior Pythons in action last weekend.

The town turned on picture-perfect weather on Saturday 16 August as Canowindra proudly hosted the final gala day of the Central West junior rugby season, drawing families, players and supporters from across the region for a day to remember.

Under clear skies and warm sunshine, the fields came alive with the sights and sounds of junior rugby at its very best.

Young players ran, tackled and cheered their way through a full program of matches, showing the skill, heart and sportsmanship that has become a hallmark of Central West rugby.

But it was a first for the region that made this gala day truly special. Canowindra had the honour of hosting the first ever all-girls exhibition matches, giving young ladies from across Central West rugby the chance to take centre stage and shine. The exhibition games were a wonderful showcase of the growing enthusiasm for girls’ rugby in our area, and the players did themselves, their clubs and their families proud.

The gala day brought a fitting close to another fantastic season — one filled with hard-fought matches, new friendships, and the kind of community spirit that makes country rugby so special.

As the season draws to an end, the Canowindra Junior Pythons are already looking ahead to next year. The club would love to welcome many new families into the Junior Pythons community in the seasons to come, whether your little ones are lacing up their boots for the very first time or coming back for more.

A huge thank you goes out to all the players, coaches, volunteers, sponsors and families who made this season such a success. Here’s to the next one — we can’t wait to see you all back on the field.
