Year 6 Leaders from St Edward’s Primary School Canowindra in Sydney ready for the 2020 Young Leaders Day.
St Edward’s Year 6 Leaders last week had the opportunity to travel to Sydney to attend the 2020 Young Leaders Day at the International Convention Centre with their parents and Principal, Mr McNamara.
The students were part of a large audience made up of primarily Year 6 students from schools across NSW. They were there to listen to a number of speakers who are all interested in motivating and inspiring young people.
Presenters this year included, media personality Erin Molan who spoke about being persistent and believing in yourself. Rove McManus, who is also a children’s author told the audience that people around you help you make your good ideas, great ideas. Former Australian Netball captain, Bianca Chatfield said that we can all be leaders, by being supportive and kind, listening and encouraging. The students were amazed by John Coutis, who zips about the stage on a skateboard as he has no lower body. His message was how the very best thing you can be is yourself and how you will always be different to everyone around you.
Solli Raphael is the youngest winner of the Australian Poetry Slam competition, author, humanitarian and ecowarrior and was another presenter. The day was hosted by Jade Slater a social entrepreneur and the product manager of the Cotton On Foundation.
The students from St Edward’s were most appreciative of the day and Mr McNamara commented that “It was one of the best Young Leaders Days that I have attended.”
