St Edward’s Primary School celebrated the end of 2014 on Monday night. The evening began with a Graduation Thanksgiving Mass for the year six students at 6 o’clock. Afterwards the families had picnic dinners on the grass in the playground before settling down to enjoy the Christmas play based on the story of the Nativity in which Cooper Breen played Joseph and Jolene D’Anastasi played Mary. Parent, Kelly Breen, was impressed with how the evening went, “I think they put on a really good show, a lot of practise and effort went in and it showed. The kids had a good time and the parents enjoyed watching” she said. Families that are leaving the school were acknowledged followed by a presentation to the Kindergarten children on successfully completing their first year of big school. Children from years 1 to 6 were recognised and presented with achievement awards ranging from key learning areas to effort, application and improvement. The current school leadership group presented their badges to next year’s leadership group. The new leaders for 2015 include School Captains Maisie Harrison and Patrick Hickman, Sports Captains Sammi Durkin, Gabby Clements and Lydia Coady, Library Monitor Callum James and Year 6 Leaders Katherine D’Anastasi, Kathleen Pace and Chloe Bellach. Members of the community also presented children with Major Community Awards with Georgie Fisher winning the special St Edward’s Fellowship Award in memory of Carmen Simpson. Principal Ken McNamara enjoyed the evening and is looking forward to the year ahead, “It was a fantastic night for our school community. I’d like to thank the students for a wonderful year, the teachers for their dedication to the parents for their support towards the school. We look forward to seeing you in 2015!”
