The Canowindra High School open girls squash team of Elsey Watson, Scout Stacey, Lillian Harrison, and Emily Thomas travelled to Parkes last Friday to compete in the Western Area finals.
Over the past few months the team have defeated Boorowa and Dunedoo, qualifying them for the finals. The girls played Parkes HS in their first round and won 8-0. The last round was against Kandos CS who have been Western Area champions for many years. With a tough opponent the girls went on court giving their best efforts. Their afternoons of training paid off, and although they were defeated 2-6, they had improved on the previous year’s matches.
The team came second in the Western Area and are now in the first round of the State knockout playing teams from Sydney and other regions of the state.
