Spring Into Action…Up, Up And Away!

24 September, 2014 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Mariah - Over Boulder_edited-1-1If you haven’t been to Toms Waterhole in a while you’re in for a tasty surprise. With a new range of wines recently released this spring is the perfect time to brush up on your wine.
Tucked away at 752, Longs Corner Road in Canowindra, Toms Waterhole is the perfect hideaway to relax, unwind and have a tipple with friends. The winery owners, Graham and Jan, are also involved in Canowindra Balloon Joy Flights, a hot air balloon passenger company. Graham has been flying balloons in Canowindra for over 30 years, which makes sense as Canowindra is the ballooning capital of Australia!
If you want a completely unique experience, take a trip into the sky in a hot air balloon then enjoy a delicious ploughman’s lunch over a bottle of wine at Toms Waterhole. The winery owners, Jan, Graham and Anton, offer a variety of options tailored to suit your needs. “It’s the prettiest time of year to fly!” she says.
The red hot deal at the moment up at the winery is that patrons will receive 20% off or a free bottle of Humpers Tawny Port with every case purchase for Canowindra residents and their friends until the 15th October. The port has been barrelled for 14 years, giving it a rich flavour sure to please.
They are currently open for Christmas party bookings but make sure you get in early because the dates are filling up fast!
Some fun balloon facts…
1. Toy balloons were invented by Michael Faraday in 1824. He used balloons to store gases.
2. In 1808, two Parisians fought a duel in balloons. One died when his balloon was shot and crashed.
3. The first living creatures to fly in a hot-air balloon were a sheep, a cockerel and a duck, sent up by the Montgolfier brothers in September 1783.
4. All survived but the cockerel broke a wing, probably because it was kicked by the sheep.
