Against a star-studded Cowra line-up, the Canowindra High Open Girls Soccer Team stunned their highly rated opponents with a hard-fought 2-1 victory last Tuesday. In a skilful and physical contest, Canowindra started the better team and played much of the first 15 minutes in Cowra’s territory. The final score of 2-1 was a deserved result for a team who gave everything and supported each other throughout the match.
It seems unfair to single out any one player as each individual contributed to an amazing performance, however, it would be fair to say that Georgie Fisher, Charli Stewart and Julia Wright were particularly impressive.
The team will now play Lithgow High School in the Round 3 clash, which considering Lithgow’s school population will again have us as the underdogs. Having seen the fight and determination in these girls, I would not be surprised to see us give this match one huge shake-up.
