St Edwards Catholic Church will be celebrating the Sisters of St Joseph on 26th and 27th August.
CELEBRATING THE SISTERS OF ST JOSEPH IN CANOWINDRA: On 26th and 27th August, the Catholic Parish is holding a weekend of celebration to commemorate the wonderful works of the Sisters of St Joseph and the integral part they have played in the life of the Parish and broader community of Canowindra.
The weekend will consist of a Parish Dinner on Saturday night, to be held in St Edwards Hall from 6:30pm, and then on Sunday, 27th August at 10am Mass in St Edward’s Church, the new leadlight windows which are to be installed into the church will be blessed.
This is a free dinner to which you are all welcome. For catering purposes please book at the Canowindra Pharmacy or contact Anne Ward on 0428 443 262. Bookings close Sunday 20th August. Please BYO drink.
2023-24 VOLUNTEER GRANTS: The latest round of the Volunteer Grants Program is open for eligible not-for-profit community organisations, with $66,225 being allocated to the Calare electorate for our wonderful volunteers. Grants of up to $5,000 are now available to support volunteer efforts, such as:
• Purchasing small equipment items for use by volunteers,
• Contributing to fuel and transport costs,
• Assisting with the cost of training courses for volunteers.

BE ROAD READY FOR HARVEST FIELD DAY: Farmers, contract harvesters, truck drivers, transport companies, pilots and agricultural machinery retailers are invited to attend this year’s Be Road Ready for Harvest Field Day on Thursday 17th August at the Forbes Central West Livestock Exchange. Breakfast will be provided from 7.30am, with the official program kicking off at 8am. Registration is free but spaces are limited, so get in quick. COWRA POW BREAKOUT 79TH ANNIVERSARY: Last Satruday, 5th August, wreath laying ceremonies were held at the Cowra POW camp, and the Australian and Japanese War Cemeteries to commemorate the 79th anniversary of the Cowra POW Breakout. Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke said, “The relationship with Japan that’s been formed here in Cowra, is a truly exceptional example, of how what we do locally, can have an impact of international significance.”
