Now you can set your watch to the Lions Club clock on Gaskill Street.
Main Street Clock Update: The vintage clock hanging outside the main street pharmacy has been revamped. For years, the clock hasn’t been telling the right time. The Lions Club of Canowindra has revived it, and the pole it hangs from.
Lions member Tommy Jeffs said the Ger-man clock was sent away to a professional clockmaker. Its mechanics have been updated so its power by batteries, as opposed to electricity from the pharmacy.
Mr Jeffs is responsible for looking after the main street, working with Council to maintain planter boxes and more. Other maintenance the club keeps on top of is at the cemetery and the look out.
Volunteers sanded back and painted the pole it hangs on and had the update done in one day, thanks to the charity of the Cowra Hire team who lent a cherry picker without charge.
“Having a lovely main street keeps the town strong. A better main street brings more tourists, which means better business in the town. That’s exactly what is happening now,” Mr Jeffs said.
