Canowindra Show receives $15,000 Boost: Shows and field days in the Central West cancelled because of COVID-19 are about to get a slice of $34 million Australian Government funding to help ensure they can bounce back next year, with Canowindra Show Society receiving $15,000.
Federal Member for Calare, and Minister for Decentralisation and Regional Education, Andrew Gee said, “Agricultural shows are the heart and soul of our regions. They bring our farmers together, and they bring town and country together, while also putting tourism dollars into the pockets of local businesses and the broader community.” Going on to say that the boost will “Help ensure that our agricultural shows can continue to showcase the best produce that country Australia has to offer now and into the future.”
Roads in Cowra Shire to be upgraded: Works to improve roads in the Cowra Shire over the next two years are underway as part of 20 projects funded through the Fixing Local Roads program. The work being carried out by Cowra Shire Council has been brought forward as part of NSW and Australian Governments funding that is turbocharging Fixing Local Roads, a program that reduces the maintenance backlog on local roads across the state.
East of Woodstock, pavement strengthening has been completed at Quartpot Road, with sealing of both Quartpot Road and Kangaroo Flat Road due to be completed in the next few months.
Cowra Mayor Councillor Bill West noted, “With harvest now currently underway, the movement of farm machinery and vehicles around the Shire becomes a regular part of our lives. We welcome this funding to widen and strengthen our rural roads for the safe movement of these modern machines, and most importantly, the safe travel of our children using school buses on these roads.”
