Swooping Magpies: Breeding season for magpies has begun so residents should keep an eye out for magpies defending their eggs and chicks over the next 6 weeks. Magpies are protected throughout NSW, and it is against the law to kill the birds, collect their eggs, or harm their young. If you find yourself near a swooping magpie, it is best to move through the area quickly, wear a hat or umbrella, wear sunglasses for eye protection and do not act aggressively. Bike riders are also encouraged to dismount and walk.
