2020 Supplementary Volunteer Grants Round Now Open: The program, funded by the Australian Government and administered by state and territory volunteering peak bodies will provide grants of between $1,000- $5,000 to community organisations to support volunteers and increase volunteering across Australia. This funding round has a focus on assisting organisations to re-engage volunteers and adapt their practices to support volunteer safety in relation to COVID-19. Volunteering has been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Roughly 65.9% of volunteers stopped volunteering between February and April 2020. The grants can be used to buy small equipment for volunteers or for the reimbursement of volunteer fuel, transport or training costs, amongst other things. Applications close on 20th September 2020. For more information about the Volunteer Grants visit www.volunteeringaustralia.org/svg2020

Reminder: East Coast Stockfeeds Grower Information Afternoon is on today Thursday 3rd September at 3pm at Billimari Hall.

Swooping Magpies: Breeding season for magpies has begun so residents should keep an eye out for magpies defending their eggs and chicks over the next 6 weeks. Magpies are protected throughout NSW, and it is against the law to kill the birds, collect their eggs, or harm their young. If you find yourself near a swooping magpie, it is best to move through the area quickly, wear a hat or umbrella, wear sunglasses for eye protection and do not act aggressively. Bike riders are also encouraged to dismount and walk.

Don’t Forget: To spoil Dad this Sunday 6th September for Father’s Day!

Clean Up Postponed: The planned clean up of the swinging bridge area by Tommy Jeffs to be held this Sunday 6th September has been postponed as it is Father’s Day. Keep your eye out for a new date.

Spring Photo Competition: The Canowindra Phoenix has teamed up with local photography business Jessica Elizabeth Photography to launch the 2020 Spring Photo Competition. With the Canowindra district having an amazing season after years of drought now is the time to grab your camera, snap a great photo and email it through to sales@canowindraphoenix.com.au by 30th October 2020. All photos will be judged by Jessica Elizabeth Photography with the winner receiving a mini photo session worth $150, this includes a 30 minute session and 15 digital images and an online gallery.
