13 Days of Double Demerit Points: NSW Police are reminding motorists to drive safely and to remember that double demerits are in place for 13 days over the Christmas and New Year holiday period. Double demerits start on Friday 20 December 2019 and run through to New Year’s Day on Wednesday 1 January 2020 (inclusive) and apply for all speeding, seat belt, motorcycle helmet and mobile phone offences. Drivers caught using their phones during a double demerit period can expect to be hit with the fine as well as up to 10 demerits. Friday 20 December is a gazetted school day – so double demerits will apply to relevant school zone offences.
