The Showground was blessed with sunshine on Saturday afternoon as the Showgirl entrants awaited the competition results. Standing on the obligatory truck stage, Kristy White announced this year’s winners. The Little Miss sash went to Maisie Harrison and Claire Wright was awarded Highly Commended. Joanna Balcombe won the Junior competition and Amy Wythes was awarded the Senior sash, complete with flowers and a voucher for a 3 course dinner at Kate Jones at 119 restaurant in Orange. Amy says she is” very excited” about the year ahead. The judges stated that all entrants should be commended on their interviews and they were extremely impressed by the girls’ extensive knowledge of Canowindra.
President of the Show Society, Geoffrey Beath, is pleased with how smoothly the weekend went. “It’s been one of our best shows in quite a few years. We’ve had lots of good reports and I’d just like to thank the Committee and Lyn Russell and Amy Watson for their tireless duties at tying the Show together” he said. “There are a lot of hardworking exhibitors that are part of this event, such as the Chief Steward of the Woodchop, Glen Ryan. This year was Glen’s 60th Show! With dedication like that it’s no wonder it’s such a success.”
Mr Beath is now encouraging all people who wish to be more community conscious to attend the AGM Meeting in March. As this year’s event draws to a close, we must also say thank you to Mayor Hayes for making an appearance…but most of all, thanks to the people of Canowindra. As they say in the business “the show must go on” but our Show wouldn’t even begin without all of you.
