Last Wednesday Johnny Lawrence and Peter Watt from our local IGA were very excited to hand over two very generous cheques from the Community Chest program. The lucky recipients this year were St Edward’s Primary School and Canowindra High School with both schools receiving a cheque for $4,500.
The Community Chest Program is a great initiative by the IGA where a percentage of products bought with the “Community Chest” symbol on the price tag goes towards the program. This year $681 per cheque came from IGA products from the Warehouse and $3,819 per cheque was raised from the Community Chest program and donated by Canowindra IGA.
Ken McNamara, Principal from St Edwards Primary School was very excited to accept the cheque from the IGA on behalf of the School. When asked what the funds will go towards Ken said “During 2018 we are looking forward to increasing our IT resources, purchasing classroom furniture and beautifying the front entrance to our school. This donation will assist us in achieving these goals.”
Neryle Smurthwaite Principal at Canowindra High School said the $4,500 will go towards the schools daily breakfast program and also the Duke of Edinburgh scheme.
