September Is Showtime!

11 September, 2019 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

It is only two weeks to go until the 118th Annual Canowindra Show which will be held on 27th and 28th September 2019, with the Major Sponsor this year Daly Flooring and Carpet.

New Show President for 2019, Stuart Gavin said “The show committee has worked hard this year to encourage the younger generation to become involved in the Canowindra Show by adding events such as the Beaut Ute Competition and the Dog High Jump”.

“I take pride in being this year’s President after being one of the Sport Shearing Stewards for the past 10 years. I am looking forward to being a part of the future growth and success of the Canowindra Show,” continued Mr Gavin.

The Show will be officially opened on Friday 27th September 2019 at 6pm by local Ellen Downes who was a finalist in the NSWACT Agrifutures Rural Women’s Award in 2019. Ellen is an enthusiastic supporter of the Canowindra Show as well as being involved in the Sydney Royal Easter Show.

The very popular Cobley Pavillion entries for Dairy, Fruit and Vegetables, Garden Produce, Homemade Baking, Preserves, Needlework, Quilting, Cut Flowers, Fine Arts, Craft, Junior Art and Craft and Photography will be judged at 9am on the Friday morning.

What section will you be entering in this year? It is time to start planning!

“The Canowindra Show provides an excellent opportunity to showcase the talent and skills of our community attracting people locally and from the region, our annual Show is for the community by the community.

It is wonderful to see the creativity brought together in one place with appreciation for everyone,” said Deb Rutter, Canowindra Show Steward.

Friday night is always a treat at the show and this year will be no different. The Beaut Ute Competition will kick off at 6.30pm, followed by a spectacular fireworks display at 8pm. There will also be a bucking bull at the bar which is sure to entertain the crowds!

Saturday at the Show will be jam packed with Show Jumping, the Animal Nursery, Horse Ring and Saddle Events, the Tractor Pull, a display of vintage tractors and cars, the Jillaroo and Jackaroo Competition and the sashing of the Canowindra Showgirl at 2pm.

The Senior Showgirls entering for 2019 are Anna McNamara and Charlotte Groves and the Junior Showgirl entrants include Charlotte Burling, Matilda Cramp, Iris Cuddy, Bridie O’Connor and Claire Wright.

The show office at Central Motors will be open from Monday 23rd September through until Thursday 26th September from 9am-5pm to purchase show tickets and schedules. Any earlier enquires can be made at The Shearing Shed Hair and Beauty to Sarah or Karen at the Canowindra Post Office.
