This Friday, 4th August more than 1,000 Scouts from across NSW will eagerly converge on the Cataract Activity Centre in Appin, south of Sydney, for the 2023 State Rally, the state’s largest annual gathering of Scouts aged 11 to 14.
Scouts participating in the State Rally will trek between the activity bases dispersed around the 160-ha site during the day, setting up camp for Saturday night in the early afternoon to be prepared for the following set of tasks on Sunday morning.
The State Rally theme this year is “Around the World in 3 days,” according to organisers Mitchell Stubbs and Charlotte Gleeson. The event aims to give Scouts a memorable experience full of enjoyable and challenging adventures, while also building and developing their outdoor adventure skills and interacting with other Scouts.
For many participants, the State Rally is their first chance to interact with Scouts from other regions and form friendships. Some of the Sout units attending will travel from Dubbo, Kyogle, Murwillumbah, Jerrabomberra, Newcastle and Sydney.
Past members of Scouts NSW have expressed their disappointment in the lack of interest in the group from their local area of Central West NSW, stating “It is a shame that young people are no longer interested in participating in scouts anymore. Some of my fondest childhood memories came from scouts. Now raising children in the area and not having a scout group in either Cowra or Canowindra is sad. Hopefully the rally will encourage more kids to join and more parents to volunteer.”
