It was all smiles and excitement last week as the start of a new school year began for the children of Canowindra in 2020.
On Wednesday last week, eleven young students started their education journey in Kindergarten at St Edward’s Primary School with their Kindergarten teacher Mrs Roxanne Breen. When the bell rang at 9.05am the eleven young students lined up for assembly with big grins on their faces.
The wait was then finally over on Friday morning for the new Kindergarten kids at Canowindra Public School after completing their “Best Start” interviews earlier in the week. Twenty eight eager students arrived at the school with family and friends for the start of their education. Canowindra Primary School has two kindergarten classes this year taught by Mrs Swords and Mrs Pearce with a combined K/1 class. The teachers are looking forward to teaching their new students who seemed very eager to learn and expand their minds this year.
This year’s Canowindra High School incoming Year 7 group consists of approximately 70 new students from the surrounding primary schools in the area as they begin their High School experience with their year advisor Mr Stuart Ferguson. This year will see the largest number of students enrolled (272) at Canowindra High School for more than ten years. The High School also welcome four new teachers – Mr James Goh (Mathematics), Mr Robert Brown (English), Mr Michael Bushell (HSIE) and Mrs Linda Carne (TAS); Ms Emily Azzopardi to the School Counsellor position; and to the SASS staff, Ms Imogen Park, Mrs Catherine Ellis, Mr Charlie Thompson and Mr Dennis Moran.
The school year begins with swimming carnivals this week and next at the local pool where the great sportsmanship of the students will be on display.
Good luck to all the students for an exciting 2020!
