Last week, fifteen Canowindra High School students travelled to Sydney for a once in a lifetime opportunity, when they were invited to participate in the School SpecFest excursion. Organised by Michelle Dodd, from the NSW Arts Unit, the four day excursion was offered to 157 lucky students and 35 staff from seven schools and included a wide range of activities.
Beginning with a Dreamtime tour of The Rocks, students then enjoyed lunch at Balmoral Beach, followed by a meet the animals talk and free-flight bird show at Taronga Zoo, before walking to catch a ferry to Circular Quay.
Students began their ‘Fabulous Friday’ at Netball Central for a rehearsal with the flash mob choreographer, Sally Dangar, before watching the Fabulous Schools Spectacular at Qudos Bank Arena. Featuring over 5,000 students, the theme for the 40th Celebration of Schools Spectacular was “Fabulous”. Students then walked to the NRL Center of Excellence, where they listened to a motivational presentation by Olympian judo athlete Josh Katz.
It was back to Qudos Arena to watch the Surround Sound band finals as part of the SpecFest celebration. Wearing their fabulous lime green caps and black Fabulous shirts, students and teachers formed a large group of over 500 performers pariticipating in the Flash Mob dance “Supernova”. Students were then invited to the red carpet area to meet the Sectretary of NSW Education, Murat Dizdar.
