The Canowindra Public School has formed an innovative and exciting partnership with the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program. The P&C have worked very hard to create a wonderful outdoor learning area that incorporates a vegetable garden, seed-raising and propagation area, a chicken coop and incubation/chicken-raising area.
Produce from the garden is used by the students in the school’s new kitchen. This program allows students to apply their learning in practical hands-on kitchen and garden lessons that meet the Australian Curriculum learning
outcomes and teach valuable life skills.
The school is growing vegetables with seedlings available for sale at the front of the school. With an incubator and hatching area, students are able to learn about living things and life cycles. Eggs from the school’s hens are used. These chickens are available to purchase. All money from these sales is used in
the kitchen and garden.
The school is currently compiling a recipe book. If you have any favourite recipes that you would like to contribute to this book please email them to the school: Canowindrap.school@det.nsw.edu.au or take them to the school office.
