Thousands of priceless treasures from Chinese Australian history are scattered across Australia, waiting to be discovered (or rediscovered). From dusty old artifacts in local museums to hidden gems in the hands of descendants, the history of the Chinese in Australia is both fascinating and far-reaching.
Dr Michael Williams is an historian of Chinese Australian history currently heading a database project called Scattered Legacy. Scattered Legacy brings together hundreds, and eventually thousands, of items to not only share their history but also connect it to a diverse range of thematic essays. These essays guide you on a journey to explore Australia’s rich and varied Chinese Australian heritage and history.
Dr Williams will be visiting Canowindra next week and hopes to meet up with any local residents who might remember or have any information or memorabilia of the Chinese in Canowindra and district.
