Nerida Cuddy wants to let people know about an event coming up in Term 3. On September 7th and 8th the “Beanshed” Drama School will present a production of The Hobbit. Nerida has been directing a wonderful group of about 25 young people from Canowindra from all three schools in town to prepare the play of The Hobbit.
This production features original songs by current and former Canowindra residents based on lyrics by JRR Tolkien, along with dancing, great costumes, and lots of action – spiders, goblins, elves, dwarves, dragons, a wizard – and of course, a Hobbit! It will be a lot of fun, so save the date!
The play was last performed in Canowindra by the original Beanshed Productions, and was actually performed in a Beanshed (where our drama school got it’s name!). It is fun to be presenting it afresh, about 16 years later!
Interestingly, quite a few Canowindra young people ‘cut their dramatic/musical teeth’ performing the Hobbit, back in 2002, and some have gone on to have careers in music or drama.
There will be a morning schools performance plus an evening performance on the 7th September and then an afternoon performance on the 8th September. For more information contact Nerida Cuddy on nerida@cornerstone.edu.au
