The Canowindra Tigers First Grade team revved up the defence against competition leaders Binalong Brahmans last weekend, but they unfortunately made too many errors which cost them big on the score board. Tackle counts were in the 30s and 40s; it was a credit to the Tigers and Binalong knew they were in a horrid contest.
The Binalong side were first to score, earning points from a Tigers error. Five minutes later in similar circumstances, Binalong pushed the ball wide and went on to score in the corner, taking their lead to 10-0. Canowindra hit back with a try from Anthony Redfern and strong front row running, narrowing the gap to 4 points. It was a ding dong battle with both sides trying to get the
upper hand.
Binalong gained a repeat set, put the Tigers under pressure and added another 6 points to their score making it 16-6 at the break. The Tigers attempted to hit back again with a try from Jayden Brown after some good lead up work from their forward pack. Unfortunately, too many errors from the Tigers let Binalong off the hook and allowed them to gain field position. The Brahmans
went on to score 2 more converted tries to seal the match. The final score was 26-10. Player’s player went to Kain Earsman.
