Remembrance Day 2018 at Canowindra
One hundred years ago
an eerie wind did blow
across those ragged men in uniforms,
and then there came the silence of the guns.
Today the poppy blooms in wreaths
were walked up to the Cenotaph.
We thought of that strange brotherhood
as all attendant silent stood.
One minute full we faced the west;
heard eerie blast of that Last Post;
paused lest we remember less
all those we lost.
In strangest solemn brotherhood
we all attendant silent stood
in trust that all the years
of crosses, poppies, wreaths and odes,
remembrances and kindly words
will honour every widow’s tears.
