Veronica Davis was a community crusader whose involvement in Canowindra organisations, events and initiatives was not only worth applauding, but inspirational too.
After her death 11 years ago, John Davis, Veronica’s husband of 60 years, reflects fondly on Veronica’s lifetime of community work and personal achievements.
Born in Canowindra in February 1933, Veronica was a charter and Secretary of the Lion’s Club Ladies in Canowindra, spent 4 years on the Council Committee, was President of Canowindra Meals on Wheels, volunteered in the High School tuck shop and taught school children to sew.
Veronica was part of the transport committee that petitioned to bring the Countrylink bus to Canowindra, was on the 1988 Balloon Bicentennial Committee, was an art steward for the Canowindra Show Ladies Auxiliary, and helped raise funds towards the Orana Special School. She was also Zone Chairman for the Lion’s Club and raised 5 children, regularly driving car loads of kids to play rugby league in Molong.
“She was a lovely wife,” said John, “who drove truck deliveries of wheat at harvest time and helped drench the sheep. I love what she did and I hope Canowindra does not forget her.”
