As excitement brews for the lead up to Christmas, the Cherry Festival in Young will be stealing some of that festive spotlight on the 6-7th December, This year will be the 65th annual festival and Rupert Hyde and his family down at Allambie Orchards are looking forward to it. Based in the rural town of Wombat (great name) the Orchards will see a surge of fruit picking traffic in the run up to the Festival. Allambie Orchard is located 12km south of Young and is a family owned and run business set on a picturesque 63 acres! They specialise in “pick your own” cherries, meaning they save the best of the crop for you! Picking cherries is a great family activity and can teach your kids more about food production whilst having fun, plus they get a tasty treat at the end! The Hyde family have been growing cherries since 1998. Come and pick fresh cherries straight off the tree! After all that fruit picking, why not stop in and see who is crowned Cherry Queen this year? Or maybe watch the Cherry Pie eating contest? For cherry-fans, it’s going to be a great weekend in Young. For more information go to visityoung.com.au
