Records Tumble At CPS Swimming Carnival

13 February, 2020 By editor

Best Dressed winners at the CPS Swimming Carnival (from left to right) were Jack Smyth, Lilly Hammond, Lachlan Dunkley, Laura Cox, Noah Hamer, Toby Stephens, Freya McCaffery and Georgie Statham.

It might have been the cooler weather last Friday that had the children of Canowindra Public School swimming fast at the annual school swimming carnival held at Canowindra Swimming Pool.

There was a great display of sportsmanship and school spirit shown by all participating students with some students getting right behind their sporting house and dressing up.

A massive thirteen records were broken at the 2020 carnival which is a phenomenal achievement by the students.

Records broken included:

Will Swords: 9 years boys 50m freestyle.

Ava Thornberry: 9 years girls 50m free- style, Junior girls 50m breaststroke, Junior girls 50m butterfly and Junior girls 200m IM.

Jack Smyth: Senior boys 50m backstroke and breaststroke.

Hannah Gordon: Senior girls 50 breast-stroke and Senior girls 200m IM.

Nicholas Gordon: Junior boys 50m back- stroke.

Lucy Neville: Junior girls 50m backstroke.

Boys Relay from Belubula House: Archie Moore, Levi Strange, Lachlan Dunkley and Jake Dunkley.

Girls Relay from Lachlan House: Lucy Neville, Audrey Pearce, Grace Payne and Hannah Greenhill.

Congratulations must also go to the swimming age champions for 2020:

Junior: Nicholas Gordon and Ava Thornberry.

11 Years: Jonty Bullock and Sophie White

Senior: Jack Smyth and Hannah Gordon.

A number of students will now progress to the next round, swimming at the District Swimming Carnival on Thursday 27th February.

A big thank you to Miss Mindy Dixon for all her organisation for the swimming carnival and to the many parent volunteers who helped on the day.
