Re: Proposed Aboriginal Voice to Parliament
We write in response to Geoffrey Yeo’s letter published 31 August.
Voting ‘Yes’ in the referendum on October 14th is an important opportunity for us to unite on a path towards meaningful positive change for First Nations Australians. We urge you to turn your attention away from the loud minority who oppose this positive step forward, and to listen instead to the many voices of First Nations Australians – particularly the youth, who stand to gain the most. This is not about us and our fears; it is about them and their future. To echo the words of AFL legend Michael Long on his Long Walk to Canberra in support of the Voice to Parliament: ‘it’s about what’s in our hearts, it’s about what is right, it’s about the culture of our nation and how we see ourselves’.
