Last Friday 22nd March, Eugowra welcomed Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on his second visit to the town since the devastaing floods of 14th November 2022.
Last year in question time, Federal Member for Calare, Andrew Gee MP asked the Prime Minsiter if he would return to Eugowra. He promised he would and the deadline was the end of March.
While in Eugowra, the Prime Minister and Andrew Gee visited the home of Max and Kay Jones, which has undergone a stunning transformation since the destruction of the floods.
The Prime Minister said, “We’ve provided $40 million between us, $20 million each between the Australian Government and New South Wales Government for the Resilient Homes Program, something that benefited this home here.”
“I’m proud to be Australia’s Prime Minister on days like this, when you see what great people Australians are, how resilient and tough they are, how they bounce back, how they’re so positive.”
The PM then stopped for a chat with locals at the iconic The Fat Parcel Food Van, before getting a sneak peak at some of the re-restored classic cars that were unveiled in Eugowra Friday night.
Andrew Gee said, “Top of my agenda for the day was the need for more funding from the state and federal governments for storm and flood recovery.
“The region is grateful for the current package but the reality is that it’s clear that it won’t be enough and we can’t be leaving people behind. I pointed out that with budget season approaching, now is the time to get more funding moving.”
